What does 'everything happens for a reason' mean?

If we do have free will wouldn't that mean everything happens by accident and nothing happens for a reason?

  • Answer:

Every effect has a cause, no matter how seemingly small. We do sometimes find ourselves in the paths of the ripples in the cosmic pond, but that neither negates free will nor proves destiny.

yes we do have free will but our conscience plays a part in our decisions, tal we do have unseen force that do speak to us; for example if you decide to rob a bank, before you act you will hear 2 voices in your head talking, one is telling you not to, and the other will tell you to follow through. one is good and the other is bad so it's up to your freewill to decide.

Nope. God has free will, too. So our free will interacts with His free will to create the universe as we see it.

its a good question, yes we do have free will, but the choice selected is one avenue that will then be travelled, which in turn will present out comes from that choice, as urk said, each action has a cause effect. If you had chosen a different action , then a different set of events would unravel from it, perhaps there is free will with options................
