Variety is a good thing..in food, friends, literature, whatever...much better than sameoldsameoldsameold. We have a Latina Supreme Court Justice, a person of color as our President and another female as Secretary of State. Isn't that better than before?

Quality is a better thing than variety. That said, I think one out of the three is a real improvement and qualified for the job. The other two, not so much so, in fact one is only in the job because of contacts and not qualifications. You can judge which. On the whole, probably an improvement anyway.

I am proud of my country's progress. But I still encounter people here who spew racist, misogynistic hatered of 'otherness'. We've got a long way to go to become a post-racial, tolerant society.

I believe it's about time we stop trying to avoid qualifications as being not just the first, but also the most important criteria and ignore race or creed? Why prolong racism?

It's a nice start, perhaps some day we won't notice what ancestry/ sex, or skin color our leaders are.
