If there was no state welfare / unemployment benefit payments, do you think there would be significantly less unemployment in your country? If 'yes', what does that tell you about those who want your country to increase such benefits? Honestly!

Answer:
It says that they are more compassionate. If you decrease benefits, two things will happen: 1: Some undeserving cases will get jobs. 2: Some deserving cases will suffer. You cannot separate the two. At whatever level you set benefits, there will always be some undeserving people free-riding on the genuinely needy. It is therefore a matter of personal judgement as to how much freeloading you are prepared to accept in order that those with genuine needs do not suffer. The more compassionate you are, the more freeloading you will get. The only way to get avoid freeloading is to say, and mean "Work, or die", and mean it. Which means being hard-hearted enough to walk past dying babies without doing anything. Such behaviour is condemned by our culture and dominant religion.

I know there would be fewer children. I know teenagers in my city who think nothing of having lots of kids to collect the welfare checks, it was listed as a career choice. [I kid you not. Made me want to cry.] Makes me think that those who want to increase such benefits either A) do not care OR B) don't spend quality time actually talking to and associating with the people who use welfare the most.

No - there would be more - my country would be overcome with violence - we wouldn't leave our homes Regarding the second part of your question - it tells me that they understand the concept of hard times, taking care of our own, and being disabled. +6 to every answer

I think that if there were no unemployment benefits, there certainly would be a lot more people who got of their arses and worked. We have a huge problem where I live, where people get unemployment payments, spend them on booze, and never look for work. However, I think that the people who call for increases in these benefits are usually meaning well. They just want to look out for the people who actually deserve and need unemployment money!! Personally, I think that there should be more restrictions on who can obtain unemployment benefits and who cannot. The people should also have to be able to prove that they are actively looking for work, otherwise their unemployment money should stop. The people who are on unemployment benefits for valid reasons get a bad reputation because of the losers who abuse the system.
