  It all depends on your maturity, common sense, and responsibility. Talk with your parents/guardians if you can. If they feel you're too young (as I do) ask them why. I had my first "puppy love" boyfriend at 14, which consisted of one group date, a few kisses, notes passed in the hall (still have them 28 years later!), and lots of hand-holding between classes. It really felt like flying. Looking back, that's really all I was capable of managing at the time even though I thought I wanted much more than that. When he broke up with me after three months, I was devastated. The next few boyfriends followed pretty much the same path. I can't claim having a deeper commitment with a boy until I was almost 17. That boy dumped me after two years because I wouldn't "put out" for him. As hurt as I was, I'm thankful it turned out that way. It spoke volumes about his personality and proved I was right to wait. For the record, I lost my virginity at 19. And no, he wasn't Mr. Right. Another lesson learned. At 13, you have so many things to worry about before adding boyfriends to the pile. It isn't as easy to make friends as it was in grade school. The classmates you've known for years are finding hobbies and interests that don't match your own, so your friendships are changing. There's a lot of unnecessary pressure to fit in. You start wondering whether something is "wrong" with you because you don't have a boyfriend yet. There is nothing wrong with you. The best things are worth waiting for. TRUST ME when I tell you that you'll meet hundreds of boys over the next decade, and you'll eventually work your way to the right one for you, so don't fall into the trap of throwing yourself at some boy's feet just to be like your girl friends. And, for Heaven's sake, don't let anybody - boy or girl - pressure you into something for which you aren't ready.
