How To Improve Communication Skills?

Looking to improve communication skills. It should be known that I am happily not a people person. Yes I have some friends but I like solitude. I'm just looking for suggestions on how to improve my communication skills becuase they're very crude.

    When I determined that becoming more extroverted was in my best interest, I began reading books on communication. One I found to be helpful was The Talk Book by Gerald Goodman. It is available used from half.ebay.com and amazon.com. The one practical exercise for you is begin talking and engaging people you'll likely never see again in conversation. Grocery store check out clerks, waitpersons, bank tellers, telemarketers...yes, I practiced on them because I figured I should get some good out the incessant calls back in the early 90s. One of my favorite tactics is to ask these type of folks "How are you doing today?" and when they inevitably respond with, "Fine." I use "How do you know?" I am usually rewarded with a smile and often find my fellow humans are human, after all. Ask yourself, "Would I be uncomfortable if I were to speak to this person, right now?" and if you can answer "Yes" make it your goal to speak to them. Stay with it, it will take time to gain any perceived benefit from your efforts, this is not an easy fix, but with that time you'll some good stories to tell.

try and get into longer chats with people on here and act as if it is a face to face conversation. get a webcam and talk to people on there...read, watch the news...take your time, and chances are people will be very understanding. just take your time, and practice with the simple things.

As you are not very sociable I would suggest reading more and watching the better and more up market type of chat show. Both will give you insight into communication and also improve social skills.
