I'm considering going to college at the Univ of Auburn, but I'm really shy, and worried about how people say college is nothing but a big party anymore, anybody want to give me a little taste of their experience or advice to make me feel better about it?

You don't have to be anyone you are not. There are a lot of different people at colleges. You have choices about whom you hang out with, and what you do. My advice is to be yourself, join a couple of clubs you are most interested in, take classes towards a degree, and one just for fun if possible. I went to school, and never once went to a party. Then again some of my friends did well balancing parties, and school. It's all up to you.

I went to Illinois, which has 35,000ish students, and was very shy (paralyzingly shy around girls). At any college there's a wide variety of people. There are a lot of partiers, especially Freshman year, but if you don't hang around with those people they won't affect you (except that you might have to find a quieter place to study than your dorm room). You'll also meet a lot of new friends (new ones every year). Join an organization or two to make more friends and feel more at home.

Don't be afraid. Auburn has good academic programs, so you're likely to find some smart, shy people like yourself. And who knows, you may enjoy going to a few parties every now and then. New experiences will help you break out of your shyness. I am shy like you, and college was the best time of my life. You will do fine. Good luck!
