What is the best scout survival school?

A Boy Scout keeps a two-inch pocket knife in a survival kit in his car. He gets suspended from school for 20 days because of it. Thoughts?

  • Answer:

I think this is exactly why "zero tolerance" makes no sense. It's ridiculous that this kid was punished at all: once they investigated the claim about the knife, and discovered it was locked up in his car, and that he had no intention to use it at the school, that's where it should have ended. Context is important in almost everything. Maybe not rape, there's really no good reason to rape anyone, but pretty much everything else, context has to be considered.

If you r on school grounds, u must obey their rules. There's too much scrime going onin schools today that's why they have to inforse the rules. If his car was broken into and someone used the 2 inch knife to inflick harm on another individual, should the owner of ther knife be responsible too, or would u blame the school for not being safe?

The idiot who gave him that sentence needs to be fired. A lead pencil is more deadly than a two inch knife. Hell the kid could kill someone with nothing more than a finger to the eye. Yet he gets suspended for the two inch knife.

I am going to agree with Teresa on this one. When I was a kid, I used to carry a knife to school in my pocket. I got it out and used it for perfectly legitimate reasons in some of my classes. My teachers saw me using it and never said anything about it. given the fears of violence at schools, I can understand why knives would be banned now, but the zero tolerance rules are too extreme, especially as they were applied here. The boy is an Eagle Scout. That does not put him in the category of people who are likely to commit violence against others. I would say that just the opposite is true. From my experience in the scouting program, I would say that it makes the boy less likely to do something like that. He admits that he broke the rules about no knives at school. So, he was willing to accept the five-day suspension. The district's tacking on of another fifteen days was completely unreasonable, especially because the official never gave any reason for that action. If this young man had had a record bad behavior, then such an action might have been justified. Given this situation it was not.

In his "car" how did they find it and was it on the school property??? Since I am a scout too, NO (im so bias) he should be unsuspended.
