How to get into Commercial Art as a career?

My career goal is to become an art director/curator at an art museum. I have a B.A. in Visual Arts Management. Most museums are looking for people with a MA in art history. Can I get an M.A. in art history even though my B.A. is visual arts management?

  • Answer:

For the most part, any accredited B.A. should let you into whatever kind of M.A. program you want. The exceptions are things that require a lot of quantitative skill, like, say, mathematics or statistics or computer science or some other sciences. At least that's true in the U.S..

Hi there I am a curator and I would say it will be difficult, you may be able to do a years course in Art History first as a kind of sweetener to the subject, try Birkbeck and the OU but in honesty you need a BA in the History of Art to be a curator an MA alone will not equip you with the amount of knowledge needed to secure employment, sorry to rain on your parade. x
