What is the drinking age in Canada?

Why is the drinking age 19 in Canada? It doesn't make ANY sense. 19 is not different than 18. USA raised the drinking age to 21 in 1984 to raise the highway funding by 350 million $ I know that. But what is Canada's intention?

  • Answer:

It's 18 in Quebec. There are no specific intentions. Yes. 19 is no different than 18. But besides the number, how is 18 different than 17? I honestly think it has to do with when people actually become adults. At 19, people are out of high school and on their own at college/university. By having the drinking age at 19, it limits illegal alcohol consumption by students, helping to prevent deaths by alcohol poisoning because they can drink in public where they are being monitored.

The US and Canada are two different goverments - what one does or does not do need not have any relation to each other or what you or I thinks makes sense. I believe there is a difference of 52 weeks between the ages of 18 and 19. +5

19 is as different from 18 as 17 is. You have to have a number and structure. 19 is just a little more mature. I find that people who are so interested in the drinking age and why are the exact ones who need the rule.
