Meds may be called for, but if you do not want them, and have not been Baker acted, most states have patient's rights laws. If your state has such a law, you have the right to refuse treatment. If the psychiatrist gets angry, that is his problem.

Try getting a different med. It often takes a while to get one on the right med or cocktail of meds. I am on five and now that we got the right ones in the right doses all is well. If you need teh pills you cannot determine this for yourself. Some take months to kick in fully or to allow side effects to calm down. I feel you on this, need to

Find another one. There is no reason for them to get angry. If you want to do it without meds, then they should work with you on a plan to avoid them (or find another one with less side effects). But you need to keep in mind that medication may be necessary, whether temporarily or permanently, depending upon your condition.

I have been there and done that many times. Anti depressants change my entire personality. I no longer care about people. I lose my sense of humor. They make me sick. Yet all my psychiatrists get mad when I say I don't want meds. I just want therapy and they treat me like crap because they want me to come in every month and give them money. They don't care about me or my illness. It's money. In the hospital they gave me a medication which made me so weak that it took me 15 min to stand up without falling. I then said no more and they put in the charts non compliance. They didn't ask me why. They just said I needed it and I should take it. Yet had I fallen it would have been my fault for not telling them I had a problem. You can't win. I fully believe if you have a good therapist you don't necessarily need medication. They want to dope you up so you will be out of their way and make their job easier. If you can try another psychiatrist but the good honest caring ones are very rare. They get $200 for 15 minutes and you know now why they want you on meds so they can make that money from you. Good luck and I do know what you feel. Believe me.

As long as they're not state appointed, fire their ass and go to a psychologist instead. You'll get much better results.
