How can I save my data on the Internet?

Why do so many people seem to think that transferring data from the Internet to a file that you save on your PC is the *only* thing that takes up bandwidth without realizing that surfing and streaming involve data transfer as well?

  • Answer:

For myself (one of those people you referred to) it is due to computer illiteracy. As much as I enjoy using my computer, I don't have a forté, not to mention much interest, for all things technical. There are definately times when my lack of knowledge is the source of frustration and I have f#*&%ed up my computer more than once. I am thankful not everyone is like me when I need to turn to someone to fix my mistakes! Thanks for the info :)

Probably because of the length of time it takes to download some files. Even on a DSL modem of 3MB, it takes a few minutes to download files of 200+MB or greater. When you're surfing, the window comes up in a second or two. In actuality; every time you up load or download, you're using bandwidth.

Because many people are like me, a "what button do I push now?" user. I don't even know how to set paragraphs on e-mail! +5

I'm not sure what the problem is here .... I don't know how my washing machine works either, but I'm not going to stop washing clothes ... What's the real question???

Possibly because they have a misconception as to what "bandwidth" really means?
