Old arcade PC game?

when they come out with an arcade port (to console or pc) of a 2d video game, why are the graphics much worse than the arcade version?

  • Answer:

I know back in the 90's, coin op machines had hardware dedicated to running that single game.. The consoles the games were ported to (Genesis, SNES, etc..) had graphics hardware and memory that were often inferior to the coin-op's, so home graphics often suffered. If this is still happening today (haven't been to an arcade in a long time) then I don't believe there's any good reason for it, other than laziness on the part of the programmers.
