What is energy conservation?

Define law of conservation of energy? And what are renewable/nonrenewable resources? Something about energy crisis.

  • And how can law of conservation of energy help in overcoming energy crisis?

  • Answer:

    1) "The law of conservation of energy is an empirical law of physics. It states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time (is said to be conserved over time). A consequence of this law is that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. The only thing that can happen to energy in a closed system is that it can change form, for instance chemical energy can become thermal energy." Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_energy 2) "Energy conservation is the practice of decreasing the quantity of energy used. It may be achieved through efficient energy use, in which case energy use is decreased while achieving a similar outcome, or by reduced consumption of energy services. Energy conservation may result in increase of financial capital, environmental value, national security, personal security, and human comfort. Individuals and organizations that are direct consumers of energy may want to conserve energy in order to reduce energy costs and promote economic security. Industrial and commercial users may want to increase efficiency and thus maximize profit. [...] Electrical energy conservation is an important element of energy policy. Energy conservation reduces the energy consumption and energy demand per capita and thus offsets some of the growth in energy supply needed to keep up with population growth. This reduces the rise in energy costs, and can reduce the need for new power plants, and energy imports. The reduced energy demand can provide more flexibility in choosing the most preferred methods of energy production. By reducing emissions, energy conservation is an important part of lessening climate change. Energy conservation facilitates the replacement of non-renewable resources with renewable energy. Energy conservation is often the most economical solution to energy shortages" Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_conservation 3) "A non-renewable resource is a natural resource which cannot be produced, re-grown, regenerated, or reused on a scale which can sustain its consumption rate. These resources often exist in a fixed amount, or are consumed much faster than nature can recreate them. Fossil fuel (such as coal, petroleum and natural gas) and nuclear power are examples. In contrast, resources such as timber (when harvested sustainably) or metals (which can be recycled) are considered renewable resources" Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-renewable_resource "Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished)." The total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time, meaning it can only be converted from one form to another. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_energy Renewable/nonrenewable resources? Theoretically- there is no difference. In practice however there are limits. For example- Wood is a renewable form of energy. Trees are growing all over the place. However, If we destroy the environment that they'd normally grow in, they cannot regrow. Or, we harvest them faster than they can replace themselves- they become nonrenewable. Even now, mother nature/geological forces are creating new sources of coal and oil. the problem is, they normally do so in units of time measurable in geological epochs. Which can be a pain for the next quarterly bonus. But even items like radioactive materials such as Uranium are renewable. BUT, it would take another supernova to create more of it.

According to law of conservation of energy:Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it changes its form. example:simple pendulum in this energy is in combined form potential energy and kinetic energy.when the pendulun is in extreme left or at right position then it have only potential energy here at this position kinetic energy is zero. But when pendulum is in mid then here kinetic energy is maximum and potetial energy is zero. Renewable energy source:These resources can be used again and again. example:Solar energy,Wind energy. Non-renewable energy source:These resources can not be used again and again. example:coal energy, petroleum energy.

energy doesn't increase itself or disappear itself, it just change from one form to another. I don't know about renewable or nonrenewable resources but my guess is that renewable resources are forests, wind, and similar resources, nonrenewable would be coal min, oil, radioactive material, etc.
