  • Answer:

http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/012908/living_20080129009.shtml This link refers to a book someone created on the topic (Book is called: "Hardy Palms for the Southeast: A Guide to Growing Palms Outdoors North of Florida" so I'd hit up your library :D) I pulled this from the bottom of the linked page : "Five Myths About Palms 1. Palms are tropical plants. The truth is most palms are tropical or subtropical, but there are somewhere between 50 and 100 palm species that will take temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. A few will handle temperatures below zero degrees Fahrenheit, making them ideal candidates for the Southeast. 3. Palms are "exotic" plants. The truth is palms are native to the Coastal Plain and lower Piedmont of the Southeast. In fact, the Southeast has more native palm species than California. . ." (obviously there are three more on the page ;)) Hope that helps, at least somewhat.
