Like any other profession, nurses need a graduate degree to advance in their careers. Many Registered Nurses or RNs pursue a master’s degree in nursing to move to managerial positions like assistant manager, head nurse, assistant director, etc. Some RNs earn a master’s degree to become advanced practice nurses who may work independently or with doctors to provide care in their specialized field. Needless to say, growth opportunities and earning potential increases for RNs who complete a master’s degree. I have a nurse friend who is attending Independence University’s MSN online program for professional advancement! Source: http://www.independence.edu/masters-nursing-degree-msn.php
