Are you a thought criminal?
-
What constitutes a thought crime? If your familiar with the George Orwell classic, the book refers to certains thoughts or free will as being a criminal element. What is your stance on thought crime? Have you ever committed a thought crime? Do you think the government should make laws limiting what a person can think for himself and outlaw opinions entirely? Explain in detail.

This is a footnote added for fun. I hope you don't mind. When I was 10 years old my daddy took me to the Circle Theater in Indianapolis, Indiana to see the Mills Brothers perform. One of their most popular songs was, "Standing On the Corner (watching all the girls go by)." The line in the song that got the most smiles of recognition was this: "Oh, you can't go to jail for what you're thinkin'"

Once we start convicting people of their thoughts, everyone will be an inmate.

Although some thoughts may be truly "criminal" --- no UNACTED UPON thoughts should be punished by society. So long as such activity stays within one's own head, then it is a crime against oneself only. And sooner or later one pays for internal criminal activity, by one's own hand.

We already have laws on the books criminalizing thoughts. Sexual harassment, discrimination, and hate crime legistlation fit the bill. In fact, it's not even necessary to have bad thoughts. If a woman feels she's in a hostile work environment because no one wants to be friends with her (due to her previous discrimination complaints) then you can be charged with sexual harassment. And this is strictly enforced by multi-million dollar lawsuits.

They found some evidence later but that was the charge when he was arrested as he went to leave the parking lot. I spoke with one of the police officers that stopped him. Guess that's SC cops for you though.
