If s/he is writing quality content then you should be happy. With too many contractors you have the opposite problem.

You have to see about the quality of his work. He may be experienced or very good at content writing and that's why he may do it in a lesser time than any other. Anyways, if you wanna hire another, then many a content writers are available on internet for providing their services.

Sounds like an effective businessman to me. He is in a competitive business, so the only way he can set the rules is if he delivers superior product. Does he? If you are looking for someone who is hungry, will work slowly and patiently with you and can grow along with your objectives, perhaps contact a community college that has programs that are related to ad copy and web design. You may be able to hire students on a part time or casual basis.
