How would I connect my computer to my TV for movies?

how to connect computer to my tv to watch movies from the internet?

  • i think my computer monitor uses a vga port, and my tv is a crt with composite ports. would i be able to find a vga cable with male composite plugs, and would a vga splitter work so that i could leave my monitor plugged in and still plug in my tv, so they could both show the picture at the same ime? are there cables with male and female vga ports and composite plugs? thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

You have to make sure your PC and your TV have at least one video interface in common, i.e., your PC has to offer at least one video output that your TV accepts as video input. For instance, many contemporary PCs offer HDMI output which can be connected to HDMI of your TV (if it has one). Also, HDMI is backwards compatible with DVI(digital) so all you need is a proper conversion cable. Older PCs/TVs feature older video interfaces, do a bit of research and you'll find out more details.

No clue about the specific plugs and what not. It's basically the same as attaching a computer to a projector. Actually... if I'm not mistaken, it is the same thing. You have the white, red, and yellow ends for audio, visual, etc. on one end and the computer end (typically blue and sometimes with 2 screws). Sorry about the lack of technical lingo. I would know how to do it if I had the cords, but specific naming is beyond me.
