Are art internships usually paid or unpaid?

do internships count just as much as paid jobs in the experience section of a resume, or are internships less impressive?

  If your internships appear to be related to your major field of study then they look a lot more impressive than the necessary youth jobs such as restaurant and retail work. I had to make my own way through working such jobs. Those who had even minimally paying internships or part-time career-related employment fared better immediately after graduation, though eventually I did find appropriate opportunity and did catch up.
