Overweight NJ Governor stood outside a McDonalds today to announced he was cutting K-12 P.E. requirements. What are your thoughts?

LOL. Wow, if he was anywhere else besides a FAST FOOD restaurant then maybe I'd give his thought the light of day. Hopefully this was just one BIG, FAT joke...

Is this overweight governor a Republican by any chance? If so, that would explain it.

I'm all for it. Teaching that regular exercise is necessary, is one thing, but requiring a specific level of fitness for a "gym" class is another thing entirely. "Gym" is good for the socializing aspect; it helps kids get along with others in other situations besides in a classroom. It may even be good for the learning process because it freshens you up. And sure, it reinforces the importance of exercise. However the "requirements" are unnecessary and it should be very clear to anyone, that the fitness of the child is the responsibility of the "parent" and the "child", not the "school." Regarding the "fat" society we live in; That is a combination of poor parenting, kids that truly don't know (or care) about the hazards of overeating / eating poorly, as well as the ready supply of fast easy "cheap" food that is not necessarily so good for you - but its' fast. I could eat alot better myself if i could afford it, although I'm quite fit. Please don't lay the "overweight americans/kids" problem which is a real problem, on the fact that they did not learn it nor had the exercise in school. Its much more likely that they (the kids OR parents) just don't care, or just are not good parents.
