How can I get my eye to stop burning?

  • I went out of town to visit family yesterday and due to a combination of allergies and possibly a reaction to my makeup, my eye burned for most of the day. It seemed better this morning, but then I got shampoo in my eye. Although I rinsed my eye out, it has been watering and burning all day. I tried Visine, and that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make my eye stop burning?

    Megcham is right, rinsing with saline solution is great. Don't be afraid to use too much, rinse and rinse and rinse. You can also chill your eye by holding a cold drink against it, running cold water over it and so on. Very temporary relief, but it's relief. Be smart though, holding an ice cube on your eye can do some damage.

Use saline solution to wash your eye. You can use it straight from the bottle or use an eye cup to wash your eye. It is good to have a bottle handy in case of emergency.

I would add to what the others said that you might want to get tested for a couple of food allergies too. If you already know that you have some allergies, soy and coconut oils are common allergies and they are common ingredients in both makeup and shampoo. If you are allergic to them, you want to know that. In the meantime, taking some Zyrtec or Claritin or Benedryl might help too.
