Youtube is disputing audio content on a video I uploaded recently, the audio was recorded incidentally. See description.

Got an email from Youtube today saying Sony Music has blocked audio content, no details, on my video. Should I dispute this or am I wasting my time?

Answer:
first i'd go a head and file a dispute with youtube, they may decide to let it go, if not i'd try editing the video to remove the offending audio track if, after removing the disputed audio track and re-uploading, sony nazi group again blocked your video i'd look for a lawyer with a slingshot willing to put one right between sony's eyes for a cut of the settlement. sony is firing off copy right infringement notices left and right even against materials THEY have no rights to and are counting on the little guys being to whipped to stand up for themselves. we the people need to show these huge soulless corporations that much like the tiny army ant, they can step on a few of us at a time but when we unit they will be nothing but bleached bones!

Recorded in the background or something I assume? Still their song and you can't have it in your video without permission. I'd let this one go if I were you.

Sounds like you accidentally recorded protected media while you were shooting video of something else... unfortunately, now the protected media is part of the soundtrack of your video. Sony is claiming copyright infringement on your soundtrack -- if you can show you have rights to it (i.e. a licensing agreement) then no problem -- if you want to fight on a "fair use" basis, I'd say you'd have a long battle ahead of you, and you'll probably have to hire expensive lawyers -- is the video worth it -- if the video is worth anything, getting into a licensing agreement with Sony Music might be cheaper.

What do you mean by "The audio was recorded incidentally"? Does that mean there happened to be something on the radio in the background, that Sony holds the copyright to? I think you could maybe dispute it, but it would be a fair amount of hassle for not much payoff, if any.

It was an outdoor event with bands and carnival floats passing by where I was standing. There are 3 carnival floats near the end of the video, each shot separately and lasting about 15 to 20 seconds. The music is coming from their pa systems. I believe it is one of those pieces of music that Sony has a problem with but what has Youtube gone and done? They have gone and blocked the entire audio track from beginning to end which I have a problem with. They will give no details at present as to the actual audio that is causing the problem and this is why I wish to pursue a dispute with them.
