What to say when calling back an employer?

what do u say when cold calling a prospective employer?

  • Answer:

Please don't. It is very irritating to have people call and go on and on when they company is not hiring. If a company is looking for help, they will advertise - and you can follow the directions for applying in the ad.

The thing is, Turbo, the industry I'm getting into usually doesn"t advertise, they usually hire freelancers on contract and hire people from other similar companies. So there usually are posts available but they are filled very quickly. I personally have never had to cold call before, I've only applied by writing, in response to adverts. But this time, I have to take that chance.

Well, then keep it short. State in ten to twenty seconds what it is you do, and ask them if they will give you an e-mail address or a fax number that you might send some further information to them. However, if you do get asked questions over the phone, and they seem interested, then you can go into detail. Although I am not familiar with your industry, I do the hiring at my company, and therefore do field cold calls for employment. Be concise, speak clearly, and keep it short. Example: My name is xxxx, and I am an xxxxx. I was calling to see if I can send you my resume, in the event you have any job openings. I can do xxxx, or I am skilled at xxxx. Thank you for your time.
