"Childhood memories" in French?

is it possible that some of my "childhood memories" could have been hallucinations?

  • i used to describe some of my childhood memories to friends or relatives during normal conversations. for example, i am almost positive that once when i was about 4 years old my knee or leg was bleeding tremendously- blood was dripping down it like i had severed my leg, and i showed my mom and step dad and... i cant remember if they helped me clean it up or ignored it, but i remember i was horrified and it was very painful. i was sure this was real, but after i told this story to someone they did not remember it the slightest. i am sure that if it truly did happen then my peers would definitely have remembered a situation such as that. there have been a few other childhood memories that are significant to me that others do not remember. could it be possible that i am remembering dreams or hallucinations yet mistaking them as reality? could it be possible that i have some sort of mental disorder that isnt quite severe but is recurring or periodical? is there anyone else out there who has memories that others do not remember? if so, what?

  • Answer:

Maybe it was a dream? maybe you told a lie so often it became real to you? What about your parents? Wouldn't they know about this being true or not? The should. Were your parents or your friends parents druggies? You might have been "slipped" some mind altering drug.

The same thing has happened to me numerous times. I have an incredibly good memory from my childhood years for some reason. I can remember more about what happened when I was five than what happened a month ago. Several times I'll remember things about my family and my mother will deny it strongly. I am positive of these memories. Sometimes I think maybe being so young, they seemed more significant to me than to my parents though. My strongest memories of childhood happened during my parents divorce when I was four, so many times, they were often more occupied with more important things.

Ok so when I was little (5, 6 maybe?) I was sitting in a sandbox with some other kids, and I put my hand down on something sharp. The object had pierced my hand straight through. I held the hand up over my eye and was looking through the hole at the other kids in the sandbox. There was no blood. I remember this very clearly. What actually happened was I put one hand infront of my left eye, mostly blocking my vision. With the other I made a fist with a small hole in it and looked through it with my right eye. The visual effect is that I had a small hole in my hand. I think someone taught me that in the sandbox that day. I went to my parents and said "LOOK I HAVE A HOLE IN MY HAND LOOK LOOK!" And now I remember actually having a hole in my hand. So no, I don't think your false memories were halucinations. Just things you imagined as a kid. My best guess is at that age your brain doesn't know that it shouldnt store things you imagine in long term memory. Maybe you scraped your knee and showed your parents. They don't remember because it wasn't a big deal. You don't remember how bad it actually was, just that it was a REALL REALLY BIG DEAL so it must have been some kind of horrible grotesque injury right?
