Can you change major for your second bachelor degree?

Is getting a 2nd Bachelor's degree necessary for a career change?

  • I got my BA in Economics, but I want to go into web design/development. I don't see how my BA would be an appropriate foundation for a Master's degree in Technology. Am I right, do I need to get another Bachelor's degree to switch careers?

  • Answer:

I think that may depend on what the pre-requisites are for the job you are applying for, but I'm not positive on that. I would think that the BA in Economics would be an appropriate foundation yes, but there may be courses in the BA in Technology course that the job may want you to have. It's hard to say. Some employers may accept you with the degree you have as well and then allow you time to complete the BA in Technology while working for them. It is probably going to depend on the individual employer. Can't hurt to get one these days to give you more job options since the economy is so bad. Good luck! Sorry I am not more help.

If you want to be a librarian, you need a Master's. Other fields need a PhD. Depends on the topic.

Nope, I don't want to be a librarian. Above I explained that I am looking to go into the Technology field, specifically Web Development. What do you think? Thanks for your response. :)

Don't have to be, But different fields have different requirements and that was my point.
