Water Filters for Camping.

How do I test camping water filters?

  • Answer:

Testing a Water FilterContact your state certified water-testing facility or local college or university to see if it can test water for contamination. If so, request a kit. Upon receiving the kit, collect a sample of contaminated water in a container--water from a sewer or stream used by livestock, for instance. Take the sample of dirty water and place the intake hose of the filter in it, place the output hose in the sterile test cup and operate the water pump as directed. Seal the sample and send it to the lab. When the lab sends you the results of the test, compare the results to your water filter's specifications. If it meets or exceeds specifications, you're ready to hit the hills. If not, replace the filter unit or purchase a new water filter.References:http://www.epa.gov/safewater/faq/pdfs/fs_homewatertesting.pdfResources:http://www.epa.gov/safewater/labs/
