Connect xp old desktop to new windows 7 laptop?

Can I use my Windows XP laptop to connect to the internet via Ethernet on my Windows 7 Desktop?

  • I followed a tutorial on here, but it doesn't seem to want to work on my laptop. The wireless network keeps disconnecting when ever I enable network sharing for the LAN port.

  • Answer:

actually you can, using one computer as a gateway for the other. i have done that in the past. you will have to set up the ip configuration on both computers properly. "gateway" is the keyword here.

How do I set up a gateway? I am trying the internet connection sharing tool, and it gives me the following error. An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. "Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing." It is not the router because that is set to 192.168.0.22.

It´s been a while that I did that, I am not familiar with the Internet Connection Sharing, but I just remembered something importanta: you will need to connect one computer to the other through their ethernet jacks using a CROSSOVER Ethernet cable.

As far as I know you don't plug it into the computer you plug it into the modemor router if you want to go the ethernet rout.
