Why can't I print off my laptop wirelessly?

Every time I plug my printer into my laptop, the laptop shuts down completely hence I cant print anything Help?

    Going to guess at a few things,1Do you have the correct driver installed for that printer??2.make sure the power is OFF to the printer when plugging it into the lap top,if you have done both of those go to Device and printers and trouble shoot it and it should tell you whats wrong.

Plug in the printer, THEN boot it up.

Hi - thanks foryour quick reply. The driver is the right one, I've had the printer about 2 years and its always worked fine before now. Even with the printer switched off if I plug it into the USB the laptop wont turn on. I'll try trouble shooting but it has to be with the printer disconnected or otherwise the laptop wont switch on. Many thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. It turns out there was a nick in the cable from the laptop to the printer which was knocking it off evertime. How obvious and embarrassing, thankfully it was only a friend of the family who spotted it. I would have been mortified if I had been in a shop! Thanks again
