What is an Act of God?

If God exists was his act of creation itself the cause of imperfections and evil?

  • Leibniz refuted the first premise of the argument that: 1) If God were all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-good, then this world would be the best possible world. 2) But surely this world is not the best possible world. 3) Thus, God is not all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-good. Because in order for God to create things other that itself, God needed to create things that are imperfect and limited in order for them to exist separate from God. Now this means that Leibniz was saying that the act of Creation itself was an act of Evil. What do you think?

  • Answer:

The objective was very good and the grand designs were perfect except man corrupted things and even himself..

His creation includes human beings. All human beings are imperfect and the cause/source of evil. Perfect humans would not have free will since there would be no need for it. Human beings have free will and it is their exercise of that which determines/creates/promulgates/promotes that which is evil in the world. Just my opinion of course! :)

I have to disagree with Leibniz on this one. I am Christian and I believe that God created evil as part of creation, not that creation itself is evil. God could have sat back and not created us at all. But He didn't, He gave us life. A life full of choices both good and bad. And because I believe that nothing can exist that God did not create, that means that God created evil. I know many Christians who disagree with me on this though; and many who don't:).

Assuming god exists then I would say no, his act of creation didn't cause it but it was a specific part of what he chose to create. As a god he could have created anything he wanted, this is what he chose.

well of course He is your parents never just gave you what you wanted they let you gain it thats the same with God and He made the dark so that we could see the light

all in all good, and evil are but mere words. for every action good or evil, there is a cause, which leads to a effect. to different eyes the action, and it's effect might be viewed as good, or evil, right or wrong. or a right action with a wrong effect, or vice a versa. good vs evil much like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or the collective as a whole. Out of chaos comes order, and out of order comes chaos, it is the neverending balance to life, the yin, and the yang. I dont in reality believe any one person to be good, or evil.

evil promotes and enourages growth...God wants to create something bigger than himself

ugh, my head hurts, too much thinking LOL I know this is a dumb answer, but .....i unno......

If I believed in God, this would give me a run for my money. If God does exist, than I suppose he would be the original evil. Without him, nothing would exist. That would mean evil wouldn't exist. This makes evil something that he had to create.

Of course....He can choose to do whatever he wants and supposedly he is perfect.....So I am assuming (if he did exist) that he decided on an imperfect world with even more imperfect animals to populate it.
