I cannot empty recycle bin XP.

I am using Windows xp pro and lateley I've noticed that when I delete a file it goes to the recycle bin but a few minutes later it is gone. I have checked and unchecked all the necessary boxes to keep them in the recyle bin.

  • Answer:

You may have knowingly or unknowingly installed a program that is deleting all your temporary files, including what is in your recycle bin, on a schedule. If you know you have installed a program like that, go to its options and change the settings. If you're not sure, look in add/remove programs to see if some program has been installed that you don't necessarily need, like 'Clean Sweep' and remove it yourself if you don't want it.

If you're recycle bin is being that fickle, create a folder on the C drive and put the stuff you want to keep out of site and where it won't vanish into cyber-limbo, it is a bit of a work-a-round but at least you know your stuff won't go away.
