If I do not pay a traffic ticket I got in different city in my state, will I still be arrested in the city where I live?
-
I live in Baton Rouge and was issued a $475 ticket for expired tags in New Orleans. I cannot afford to pay. I have tried calling the N.O. police dept to no avail. Being disabled I rarely travel to N.O. If I do not pay the ticket what will happen? Will a warrant be issued for my arrest? Will my local police department arrest me for a traffic ticket that occurred in another city in my state?

Answer:
Long ago, you could get away with not paying from one town to another, but now that everything is electronically filed, you most definitely should pay ASAP. They will find you. I got a speeding ticket in some podunk town in 1992 or so. I never bothered to pay it. Four years ago, they FINALLY automated the town and I got my license suspended. I had to go to defensive driving school. At the time, it was just a 30$ ticket. It cost me several hundred dollars to get that one squared back. So I can't even imagine the amount of trouble you'd get in not paying that whopper.

Your local police will not come and knock on your door for this, but if you would happen to get stopped for any reason, and they run your I.D. you will be arrested for not paying this ticket. All of the police and DMV computers in the country are linked together. Which means that the next time you go to renew your license, or get tags for your car, it is gonig to pop up that you have a warrant for the unpaid ticket. That might, at the very least, prevent your from getting a drivers license or car tags, and at the most, get you arrested. You need to take care of this. It is not going to go away. Better try harder to get ahold of the police in New Orleans.

Well not to the point of arrested, well unless a bench warrant has been issued and most likely in that situation and the cost of the ticket. But most likely your driver's license will be suspended, registering another car in your name will be prevented.
