Is a VCR player the same as a VHS player?

WHY WILL MY COMBINATION VCR / DVD PLAYER/RECORDER, PLAY DVDs FINE, BUT WILL ONLY PLAY THE SOUND ON VHS TAPES WITH NO PICTURE? I ALSO CANNOT RECORD FROM THE TV ONTO VHS TAPE OR THE DVD. I HAVE SWITCHED AND CHECKED AND RECHECKED ALL OF THE FEEDS, NO LUCK!

  • Answer:

This is MY question and I now have the answer!! Hopefully this will help others who I have seen have the same problem/question: The reason there is ONLY audio and no video for the VCR and the DVD plays both audio and video is because if the unit is connected with the newer red, blue and green cables from the DVD/VCR Recorder, these cables offer a better picture quality for the DVD but will not transmit the video for the VCR; they're too sophisticated. The VCR needs either an additional single yellow cable from the Video Out to the TV Video IN or replace your red, blue & green cable(s) for a red, white and yellow one. Then you will have both audio and video for the DVD & VCR! Another point I learned is to record from the TV to the VCR or DVD, the cable box/satellite box must have a video (yellow) cable Video Out to the DVD/VCR Video IN. Hope this helps!
