Let's just say this. When you buy a kinect BY ITSELF, it should come with the adapter. If you bought a bundle, as I did, it doesn't. It is available right now from the Microsoft store, it's not bad price-wise. But if you want to use your kinect on an older model XBOX, you need it. Plain and simple. Microsoft's shipping was quick. Only the black 360's have a powered USB port. That's fine, but $35 bucks for a lousy adapter is, well, lousy. It's almost the price of a game... I would feel better if it was less than $20. Better price than elsewhere., March 11, 2011 By Firefly - See all my reviews Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Xbox 360 Kinect AC Adapter/ Power Supply (Video Game) If you didn't buy the stand-alone Kinect Sensor system, this is the adapter you'll need to connect the Kinect camera with older XBOX 360 consoles (Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, Opus, Jasper motherboards). One end of the cable will plug into the Kinect. This Y-shaped cable splits the connection: one USB to communicate with your XBOX 360 and another to plug into your A/C outlet for power. Ever since I bought the XBOX 360/Kinect bundle, I've been waiting for this adapter cable to connect the Kinect with my old XBOX 360 (my old system is in the bedroom, and the slim one is in the living room). This adapter is sold by Microsoft at full retail price. You're also going to be paying the full shipping price unless there's a shipping promotion. I may have chosen this path but it's also constantly out-of-stock, so I decided to wait. I'm glad I waited for Amazon (and its merchants). The price is roughly 15% off the retail - 20% if you get free super saver shipping. Mine was from merchant Springledge Entertainment, just to give credit where it's due. Amazon did a good job with packaging - more than I expected for a simple cable. There's no fancy branded box, but it's well protected with bubble-padding and typical 3"x8"x11" inch cardboard box. I've used it and it works fine with both front and back usb ports on the old xbox consoles. Just make sure your older XBOX received the Kinect platform update from Live released back in November 2010, and everything will work just like the new XBOX 360 slim. In case you aren't familiar, you can connect to Live and update with a Live Free account. It's unfortunate that Microsoft didn't include this cable in their bundle, but at least Amazon offers a good price on what you need.
