How fast does snow typically melt in Denver?

Will snow melt faster if you're in a higher altitude but have strong sunshine, or will lower temperatures make an impact

  • Say Denver, CO as an example. It's one mile above sea level, but sunny everyday, so will the snow melt faster than if we're on sea level, where the sunlight's intensity isn't that great? Or will the lower temperatures in the higher altitudes still make it harder to melt the snow?

  • Answer:

The extra sunshine is only like 5%, and most of it is in the ultraviolet. Also snow is white, and reflects most of the light anyway. You can see the effect just by looking west from Denver-- the mountains have snow on them even in July, under more sunlight.

Denver is about 90 miles more south than NYC, and its average high temp is only about 1 degree warmer.
