Got HD TV, but have Direct TV standard receiver. D. TV charges $240 to upgrade to HD receiver - can I buy on ebay?

Can I buy HD receiver with DVR on ebay? what about paying for HD monthly service through Direct TV?Won't they know I didn't get HD receiver from them?

You can buy an hd receiver on EBay. however, direct Tv will probably not allow you to use it with their service. Meaning if you don't buy theirs, they will not send you the signal for HD, and you will have wasted your money.

Thanks - feel stuck in contract. D. TV installer told me when I hot HD TV, they would upgrade to HD receiver for free, which is not the case. Manager says "nothing they can do". Looks like I pay the $240 + $50 to install or no HD for me! Any other suggestions?

Have you looked into Cable. I have HD TV and have Cable. They don't charge extra for HD.
