I de-registered and re-registered on a friends account to download some of his books. It clears my books & shows his.

I did this with another friend and it worked fine. his books were listed in my archive and i was able to download them. I realize this means they only exist on my kindle. when i de-registered from his account and went back to mine all was fine and good. My books were there as well as his. When I register this on another friends account it wipes my books and just shows his books. I can view them and they look fine. then when i register it back under my account his books are gone and mine are back

Answer:
so basically what you're saying is "I'm trying to cheat the system, and it's not working". Is that accurate?

Some people may think this practice is either illegal or immoral. Honestly Amazon could care less; as the content has been paid for and your allowed to register and deregister your Kindle to any account any number of times, with no repercussions or limitations.

No, I'm not trying to cheat the system. Amazon says it's OK to share books between Kindles. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200127470 I'm not downloading an illegal torrent or copying an illegal copy or anything like that. It's no more immoral or illegal than getting a physical book from a friend. If I want to read a book that a friend has and Amazon says it's OK for me to get that book with a simple process that they provide then I would feel foolish not to take them up on it.

I did two things and I'm not sure which fixed it. I had my friend change his synchronization settings to Off. You can do this under the Manage Your Kindle section and at the bottom is a link to manage your synchronization settings. And the other thing I did was I rebooted the Kindle. Just move and hold the power switch in the off position for about 15 seconds then release the power switch and the Kindle will reboot after that. It takes about 30 seconds for the device to reboot. I did notice one odd thing before I rebooted. Even though my friends books did not show up in my list of books I was able to search my device and find the titles and view them. So I think that the reboot fixed this more than the sync settings. Seeing as I didn't have to change the sync settings when I got books from another friend.
