Why won't my computer let me defragment C drive?

My computer wont recognize my hard drive and it won't let me install an OS on it.

  • My computer will open up to the install menu and it tells me to to press enter to install the OS then it says that there is no hard drive to install onto. The hard drive is recognized in my bios. It tells me the ID the Capacity and that it is controlled by the System BIOS. But every time i try to install the OS it doesn't work. I formatted the Hard Drive for Windows which is what i'm installing on it.

  • Answer:

Confirm that the power and data cables are both plugged in tight on each side of the cable. If the drive is IDE, confirm that the jumper is in the correct position. Confirm in the BIOS that the drive is enabled and set as the second boot device (the CD being the first boot device).
