Will Amazon be happier if older Askville Members leave Askville?
-
I heard from someone that the older Members are more argumentative and cause too much trouble for Amazon.

Answer:
How could older members cause trouble for Amazon? Amazon created the guidelines for Askville and anyone who doesn't follow them gets either their problematic comment removed or themselves removed, end of story. There's no negotiation, so how could there be trouble for Amazon? They barely pay attention anyway. Some people really cannot handle opinions that oppose their own, but that doesn't cause Amazon trouble, just the ego of the person complaining. Hearing anything from just one person does not the majority of opinions, or the reality make. If anything its the influx of newer members of Askville that fly through here with offensive sexual questions, half sentences and careless attempts at a complete thought that lower the bar on the site. Differences of opinion are a fact of life, and the idea of removing the phenomena from any site such as this is an exercise in futility. Some people are quite verbally abusive and insulting. However, they are not necessarily the older members. Just an observation. The older member have been there done that and learned by it.

Without the older members there would be not Askville. By that I mean that there would be no one to answer the questions. Very few new people stick around, they post a question and leave. Most don't even take the time to say thank you for your answer.

I am certainly not speaking for Amazon as a whole, but I have found that the "older" Askville members - length of time, not age - are a valuable part of the community. They are full of insight and have seen patterns and trends of what comes and goes on Askville, as well as full of great advice, personality and fun. I personally would have an issue with anyone trying to force anyone out of Askville without good reason. I don't know where you heard that from, but it sounds a little like rumor/speculations vs. fact to me, especially since seeing it here is the first *I've* heard of it. as site moderator. :)

Oh this repeating question. I guess my presence answers the question. But that begs why?

Yes, Dee, I've heard mention of that, too. I personally don't think they care one way or the other. We old Askvillers who enjoyed the social concept of the site, just have trouble with the new 'impersonal' format. I really think many old timers just left in disgust and found sites where they could converse and enjoy friendships. Just my take on it...I could be wrong <:O) Merry Christmas !!!

I would think that they never even notice us. Their attention is on statistics and metrics.

They haven't cared one way or another in the past.
