How do I connect my DVD recorder to Direct TV?

How do I connect both a freeview digital recorder and a dvd player to the tv?

  • I connected the freeview recorder by scart, and mains aerial into the reorcer, and aerial out into back of the tv. But when connecting the dvd player by means of a second scart, I cant get a picture when flicking onto to scart 2 on the tv. How do I connect to the coax aerial (when there is only one coax socket in the back of the tv)?

  • Answer:

Well, if you connected the Freeview recorder by the SCART cable, and you can see a picture from it, you don't need to connect the RF cable from the SCART to the TV. And if the DVD player has an RF out, you can use that. Or reverse it. Attach the Freeview to the RF and the DVD player to the SCART. The alternative is you can buy an RF switcher and connect them both into the switcher and then switch back and forth when you want to watch something.

Thank you for that answer. Can I just clarify again if you dont mind. The instructions for the freeview recorder are that the mains coax aerial goes into the back of the recorder and the coax cable from the recorder goes into the back of the tv. I have connected as it suggests. I have also followed instructions and connected the scart cable from the back of the freeview recorder inone of the scart sockets in the back of the tv. I am stuck on how to connect the dvd player. I have so far connected the scart lead into the second scart socket in the back of the tv, but there is no picture when playing a dvd. Would you be ble to advise further please?

OK. I think I've got it. Does the DVD player have two SCART connectors on it? SCART connectors are used to daisy chain components together. So the Freeview needs to connect to the DVD player, and then the DVD player connects to the TV's SCART. The other SCART on the TV would be used for a VHS recorder to record the image off the TV. So you can have two incoming signals connected to the SCART at one time. If your DVD doesn't have two SCART connectors, then you'll have to manually switch them when you want to view DVDs. You'll have to pull out the Freeview and put in the DVD player. Let me know if that works.

Many thanks for that DanZee. I will try those suggestions and let you know if it works.

Eureka! This is how it succeeded. Mains aerial to Freeview recorder (Antenna In). Coax from Freeview recorder (Antenna Out) plugged into tv. Scart cable from tv (Scart 1) to Scart socket on Freeview recorder. Scart cable from tv (Scart 2) to DVD player scart socket. Thanks again to DanZee.
