My Dell Inspiron1525 heats up and shuts down randomly. I got a new battery. What is wrong? How can I fix it myself?
-
It is only a little over a year old. I searched all over the internet but the only answers are "mine does that too" id really like to know what is causing it so I can buy the parts and go in with a screwdriver and fix it. Thank you to anyone who can answer this. Btw I got a new battery bc it was giving me an alert I needed one. It didn't fix the issue at all. Basically it gets really hot and randomly shuts down.

Answer:
If it gets hot, add some extra fans inside your case. For example, Cyberguys has a fan that slips into a spare drive slot. You can also buy some small fans and put them inside. And then you can also run the PC with the case open. Also check to make sure all of the fans it same with are all running. If the CPU fan is broken, this can cause your computer to shut off randomly.

well since this is a laptop, you won't be able to run with the case open, or install more fans. First are you making sure that when you are using the machine, that your doing so on a hard surface, so the air vents are not being blocked? Also when was the last time that you used a can of compressed air on the air vents? I'm not particularly familiar with the model laptop that you own, but in desktop computers it's common that after a year or so the thermal compound connecting the microprocessor(cpu) to the fan/heatsink dries up and needs to be cleaned off and have a new coat applied, this helps the heat to transfer away from the hot CPU. I'm not sure if this is even something that can be done to your model laptop. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Can I replace the CPU fan? If so, what is a reputable company I can buy it from? How do I replace it? It was an expensive laptop bc I juiced it up. I really need it for school and do not have money for a new one. I have all the fancy virus software and never compromise it.

Sometimes when I put it back on, it does a checkdisk from 1% to 100%. This happens when it shuts down by itself and I turn it on after it cools off. But it also happens when it is shut down properly. Thanks for your help.

Thanks you. I've never used a can of compressed air. Where should I aim the can? In otherwords, where are the air vents? Where is the fan/heatskink? What should I apply to it? Thanks, I know you said you're not familiar with the laptop, but thought id write those questions anyway. If anyone can answer them. Another thing it does is run a checkdisk when it shuts down by itself. It does it when I have a chance to shut it down properly. It takes 5 mins & goes from 1% to 100%. Any ideas why that's occuring? Thanks for the leads.

Good advice before this. There is a possibility that the only thing wrong is fine dust blocking the air path. Look at the bottom and back to find the two grilled areas, input air and output. Blow these out with the compressed air. Use the type sold in electronics stores. As said use only on flat surface. Finally, you may need a cooling pad, which is a fan to blow air towards the air input on the laptop. Make sure the air in the cooling pad is blown towards the intake not drawing it away from it. I have a Dell, experienced the same symtoms and the first cooling pad pullled air away from the LT intake. So, you have to know which is the intake and which is the output of the LT fan and the cooling pad. My Dell 1530 takes air in from the bottom and blows it to the back. Yours may be the same. If so, find a cooling pad that blows air up towards the LT.

Thank you, this week ill look for canned air & a cooling pad. Ill reply after a few days of using them just to let you know the results, if interested. Thanks again!

Here is a free program to tell you the CPU temp in deg C. http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php I got paranoid about temp after mine was shutting down. It works good. You have to make sure the air in the cooling pad is blowing the right way. The ads using do not tell. Places like Staples and such should have a good selection.
