Is Essential Health Insurance legitimate?

Got a "too good to be true" health insurance quote from a company called PJP Health Agency. Is this company legitimate?

  • I have been unemployed for almost two years, and I recently lost my health insurance which had continued after termination under COBRA. I was looking for health insurance quotes online when I came across PJP Health Agency. I spoke to one of their agents (who seemed a bit pushy), but I told him that I would get back to him. A Google search turns up negative information, but it seems to me that if this company was as crooked as some claim they would have been shut down long ago by the government.

  • Answer:

What PJP offers is not health insurance. Its a medical and prescription discount plan, offered through a company called American Benefits Association. It's a bait and switch, sort of.

Insurance companies cannot pull off miracles. They cannot pay out more than they take in. So if they offer insurance for $100 a month, there is no way you can ever collect more than that on the average. That means they either don't pay for much, plus they have lots of exceptions, deductibles, and co-pays. Also do not believe a single word of what they say on the phone. You were talking to an independent salesman, who is not legally authorized to speak for the company or adhere to any laws. They can and will say anything to get you to sign up. The only thing that is real is what they send you in writing. Ask for them to send a brochure listing all the costs and benefits and read that over carefully. Or better yet, don't bother. There is no way they can provide satisfactory coverage for much less than anybody else.

There's a dif between crooked and unprofessional. If there's smoke, there's fire. If there are some complaints, how many people did not complain? Sales in the 32st century can't be pushed, you have to stand back and let the prospect decide. Pushing does not work and is counter productive to their goal, to get you into a policy. Better off getting rates off the net and dealing direct.

Yes, but the agent who I spoke to said that what they offered was health insurance and not a medical and prescription discount plan. If they are promising health insurance and delivering a medical and prescription discount plan, I'm starting to believe that all of the complaints I am reading about PJP Health Agency (such as the one contained in the link below) are true!

I would believe them also.

Thank you for your response to my question, but since I posted it last Fall, I have found out that PJP Health Agency is a dishonest company which has lied to and ripped off many people. If you Google "PJP Health Agency scams", you will see that there are numerous complaints which have been posted on consumer complaint websites over the past couple of months detailing how this company has lied to prospective customers just to get them signed up. Those unfortunate people, who foolishly disregarded the numerous red flags (such as asking for your checking account number without providing any paperwork explaining any of their "health insurance" plans) and signed up with PJP Health Agency anyway, have found out too late that they were scammed as they were not covered for preventative care, doctor visits, emergency room visits, or medical procedures. Fortunately, I did my research and did not fall for PJP Health Agency's scam. I really hope that the proper state and federal authorities put this dishonest company out of business as soon as possible, as I'd hate to see anymore people ripped off by these crooks!

From what I have read in the numerous complaints posted online about PJP Health Agency and the people who run it, they are both crooked AND unprofessional. I don't know about sales in the 32nd Century, but in the 21st Century, a lot more has to be done by the appropriate state and federal regulatory agencies to put dishonest companies like PJP Health Agency out of business so they won't be able to ripoff any more people.

I signed up for health insurance through PJP a few monthes ago and have not encountered any issues. The plan is exactly as described. I read the complaints beforehand as well. I just made sure I asked the right questions and read the paperwork to ensure I was getting what I paid for.

If you are really a legitimate customer of PJP Health Agency (and not an employee or owner posing as a customer), and you signed up for "health insurance" with them and haven't yet encountered any issues, it's probably because you haven't tried to use your coverage for medical treatment. I'm sure that once you go to a doctor or a hospital and try to actually use the coverage which you are paying for, you will be singing a different tune when your claim is denied and you have to pay for the treatment which you thought would be covered out of your own pocket!
