How many books can a Kindle hold?

How do I remove books that I have read from my kindle? Is it necessary? How much will it hold?

  • Answer:

I think we have to know what kind of Kindle you have to answer "How much will it hold?" Find out more here http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=sv_kinc_8?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200127470 I found the following at the above address under the KindleDX... Removing Kindle Content All books you purchase are automatically backed up on http://Amazon.com. When you remove a book from your Kindle, it appears in your Archived Items. Note that if you wish to permanently remove a book so that it will no longer appear in your Archived Items please see Managing Your Kindle on http://Amazon.com. To remove content: If you are not already on the Home screen, press the "Home" button. Underline the item you want to remove with the 5-way controller. Move the controller to the left and select "Remove from device." To change your mind, move the 5-way up or down to cancel.

Yeah, the older Kindles were said to hold up to 1500 books, and the new Kindles will hold about 3500 books. Obviously, it would take you forever to scroll through that many books. Luckily the Kindle remembers the books you read most recently, so the old books are pushed to the back. I don't think you'll ever be able to fill up the Kindle, at least with books. It doesn't have that much space if you fill it with MP3s. But as Sukay quoted, you can highlight the books you no longer want to appear on the Kindle and then send them to the Archive. And then from the Archive, you can remove them from the device.

Thanks DanZee, you have been a big help. I love my kindle, but the down-loadable "help" that comes with it, sucks. I do not have time or space to add that one to my collection of down loadable info for all my other toys. The quick start guide is of no help at all. Good thing for forums like this one.

Yeah, I agree. It's not intuitive, and when I got my Kindle, I would get stuck on something, and sometimes it was easier to do a Web search for an answer than reading the manual. I'm still having trouble getting the Kindle to connect to a passworded site. There's nothing in the manual about it. I think it doesn't like hexadecimal code.
