You shouldn't take it as a problem that you have nothing to say. I can understand you feel confused because in our culture, it is expected that you speak to each-other while you're on the phone. Don't be afraid to take a break and listen inwards. If you were together IRL, you wouldnt be speaking 100% of the time either, right? So why do it while on the phone? It is just a silly presumption in our culture. However, if you do want to keep the conversation going. Be observant on whatever sentence pops up in your mind and say it.
