Does temperature affect borax crystal growth?
-
-
Answer:
Temperature directly affects crystal size. A saturated solution induced to form borax crystals (precipitate) will give crystal size directly proportional to temperature. Colder temperature gives smaller crystals, warmer temperature gives larger borax (or any other) crystals. Of course, these trends do not continue indefinitely--as when the solution freezes or evaporates.References:http://www.chem.purdue.edu/sciexpress/IACT%20Webpage/Borax%20Snow%20Crystals.doc
