What does it mean when lines are on your flat screen?

What does it mean when there are green and red lines across the screen on a camera with rechargable batteries?

  Look at the pictures when you load them up. Do the lines show up in the picture? If not, then the screen is probably dying but the actual imaging chip is fine. If the lines do show up in the PICTURES, however, then you've got a real problem. Since they're also showing up on the screen that would point to a bad imaging chip which would probably mean a new camera since replacing the imaging chip is rarely if ever worth it. I can tell you that most smaller pocket cameras are likely to be a royal pain to attempt any kind of repair, especially if it was relatively cheap to begin with. The only type of thing I, personally, would even bother with would be things like buttons that don't work (broken wire or solder connection, broken buttons, both of which would be easy/cheap to fix yourself) general intermittent behavior (bad connection, bad capacitor) or the camera just not starting up at all (bad connection, capacitor, or blown internal fuse). Anything else is likely to be a problem with a small computer ship or transistor, which take a lot more time and effort to track down and replace, especially in situations like these where it's not a total failure of a given part.
