Is BearShare a good site for free music, or will it give me a prodigious virus without an antivirus?

No it's crap. Try frostwire instead or better yet just use internet radio, spotify or youtube to listen to your tunes - less legal hassle and less virus problems. you should have antivirus and antimalware protection at all times unless your a linux user. Avira and malwarebytes are free and you should install them as they don't slow your computer either like AVG can.
