HOW BIG IS WALMART? This should boggle your mind!! And scare you as well! No. 18 is really shocking.... 1. At Walmart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day. 2. This works out to $10,000 profit every second! 3.. Walmart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year. 4. Walmart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined. 5. Walmart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer. And most can't speak English. 6. Walmart is the largest company in the history of the World. 7. Walmart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, keeping in mind they did this in only 15 years. 8. During this same period, 31 supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (are we surprised). 9. Walmart now sells more food than any other store in the world. 10. Walmart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago. 11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store.. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.) 12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart. 13. The value of product for Walmart passing through the port of San Diego each year is a larger sum than 93% of ALL countries' Gross National Product (GNP) ... and that is only ONE port ... one way that Walmart gets it's stuff. 14. Of the 1.6 million employees, only 1.2% make a living above the poverty level. (Interesting statistics eh, must be because they pay their employees so well) 15. Walmart's head office is located and centralized in Bentonville, Arkansas. Due to this fact, there are more millionaires per square mile there than any place on Earth. (Wonder what merchandise they have it their friendly Bentonville Wal-mart?) 16. The official U. S. Answer:
16. The official U. S. Government position is that Walmart's prices are 'no lower' than anyone else when compared to a typical families weekly purchases. That's the view of the statisticians at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) responsible for calculating the consumer price index (CPI). 17. 92% of everything Walmart sells, comes from China. Another 4% comes from Chinese owned companies in the U. S. or in 3rd world countries. (Yes, China is in charge here alright) SCARY.. 18. Walmart and MOST large companies, take out life insurance on it's employees, without their knowing. If an employee dies, ALL the insurance moneys go to the companies (i.e. An employee making $18,000 per year, dies, and the company might make as much as $1 million). Most often these moneys, coming from what is commonly referred to as "Dead Peasant Life Insurance Policies", is paid out to executives as bonuses. (A common practice, unknown by the common man) 19. Walmart now averages a "profit" (not sales) of $36 billion per year. 20. **Let Walmart bail out Wall Street.** If not, consider shopping someplace else.

I shop at walmart as infrequently as possible. I knew about the life insurances and the low wages, and suspected the chinese manufacturing(woulda said 80-20).

I don't shop at Walmart because of these reasons, and haven't for a long time actually. How do you help people realize what they are contributing to when everyone is a mainstream zombie???

Wow! Unbelievable! I feel bad now because my family buys certain foods from Walmart because they are cheaper - like Pepsi was only a $1 this week. And there's other things that we have compared prices to and Walmart's is cheaper. But looking at the BIG picture - it's probably best to avoid Walmart when and if possible.

Wal Mart sucks!

WOW, Ben!! Some of these are shocking and that number 18 is just creepy!! I saw a (fictional) "crime scene" type program on TV in recent months where a series of murders were solved by finding that the company had taken out life insurance policies on their employees and were murdering them...

I have a strict personal policy to never shop at Wall o death Wart. Why Wall o death Mart - they have done more damage to all of us than good in my opinion. Drive into any downtown area of a smaller to mid sized US City and see all of the devastation they cause. Death to what were once vibrant downtown businesses area that were fine examples of private business doing well etc. Who privately could compete with them? Further I did know about the insurance policies as well. I have soap-boxed for years about the evils of Wall o death Mart and many I know just wanted to claim I was silly or other-things for saying the things I have about them. Funny story, they were going to start up a new store in Toronto and a local independent news paper asked for thoughts and opinions. I wrote in about what I had seem in the US etc. as a US Citizen. They published what I wrote but edited out the facts and things that I wrote that pertained to my citizenship. Just ask yourself this, is it right that you can purchase many of the things that you can at their locations for what they charge? Keeping in mind what would be reasonable productions costs and is it right. With all of the "fair trade" concerns that we try to address how can they do what they are able to do and can you support this when you look at the results of this locally and globally. And now they say they are going green - no they are not they will always be a black death shroud to be worn sadly in remembrance of independent local businesses they kill. Think of what it really means when you see the Salvation Army people by their doors asking for donations when you shop there at Christmas time.

I saw the documentary. The High Cost of Low Price, and since then I very seldom go to Walmart. One good thing about Walmart is the web site http://www.peopleofwalmart.com I go there a LOT. It's funnier than any other site I've seen. If yo go there click on More Creatures. Have fun.
