Why do religions want you to believe what they believe but are unwilling to believe what you believe? Seems egotistical.
-
Example: Catholics want you to believe in the existence of God but get mad when you try to tell them there isn't one... If you want someone else to open their minds to your opinion, isn't it only courteous to do the same.

Answer:
There can be only ONE truth... Two plus five always adds to seven... One single true answer... Just try knocking on the door of a Catholic and asking them to discuss the Bible...they just totally refuse.;.. Makes you wonder why they even bother to call themselves religious...' What are they scared of??????????

Religion asks for absolute faith, so I suppose that's what they do. They believe absolutely. Now as to whether they should believe what you believe, it comes down to the same thing: religion does not allow room for doubt. And acknowledging there *could* be another god, or no god at all will just mean committing one of the greatest sins. “You shall have no other gods before me.” - That's the very 1st commandment of Christianity. But I sure do believe that all people should *at least* respect the personal choice of others on religion matters. Because the one most common thing that is asked in most religions is to love and tolerate others. Me, myself, can't love and/or tolerate everybody, but I try to respect what they have to say and believe in. And, another thing, the Ten commandments does also say that god is a jealous god. So, he doesn't share. :) And a very last btw, I am an atheist too! :P

Why does an atheist want you to believe what they believe but are unwilling to believe what you believe ? Seems an egotistical mindset..... Neither can PROVE anything....

At base, it's about control. Consider the fable about the blind men & the elephant: each one was partly correct but MOSTLY WRONG.

If a person considers something to be true, then of course they're not going to be willing to believe what you believe. Most people who believe in God, are as sure about God's existence, as I am about the existence of a website called 'AnswerBag'.

It is. Think of religion like a virus. The religion needs to spread to others to survive and control others, and this is one way of trying to convert others.
