Have you ever seen a cougar/mountain lion/puma? I live in Souther NH and saw a cougar years ago.

They have cougars in a wildlife preserve near where I live ... very pretty animals.

Seen one? no, but there have been scattered sightings on Ohio near the Ohio River and various other places in Appalacian counties and even north of Columbus. The deer population has been recovered for over two decades after they returned from localized extinction. Where the hooved lunchboxes roam, the predators will find a way to follow. For a each sighting there may be many of them lurking around, since they specialize in not being seen or heard. They are elusive and solitary predators.

I'm a 71-year-old geologist who has done my fair share of field work and also recreational hiking in some beautiful and oft wild places - e.g. the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, Tetons, Wind River Mts., Ruby Mts., Blue Ridge Mts., Black Hills (and surrounding plains), Yellowstone, Glacier Nat. Park, etc., etc., etc. Yet I have not once seen a cat in the wild. Oh, to be sure, I've seen a sh_t pot full of bears and hoofed animals, and marmots and such. I have a cousin who shot a mountain lion in New Mexico last year. It's entire body is mounted in a beautiful pose in his family room. I could no more do that than climb Mt. Everest solo without oxygen. Not for sport - anyway. If it were a survival thing that would be different. I'm not criticizing hunters - I'm just saying that it's not for me. I'll just do my shooting with my camera. I envy you having had that experience years ago. I'm ignorant about Southern New Hampshire. Are they all gone or do you think there are still some around? The North American big cats are a spectacularly rare and beautiful sight. As much as I like to hunt I could never kill one.

Not where I live (except the zoo) but I saw them wild in Yosemite and Yellowstone.

I saw a cougar in a bar last night.

i have in OR went huntting for some a few times after kill some of my friends farm animals. fun stuff.

There have been sightings of panthers in the SW of England. I have never seen one and would love to have an encounter (but would be in the vehicle of course)
