Montana bill to deny "anchor babies" state citizenship including those born on Indian reservations? Do you support this?

Never mind that it is clearly unconstitutional to do this....if Native Americans are not considered citizens who is? http://billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/article_d6a6a3a9-976f-5700-baba-102b46f7641c.html Native American lawmakers Rep. Carolyn Pease-Lopez, D-Billings, and Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy, D-Rocky Boy, submitted letter objecting to the bill because it would deny citizenship to members of Montana's sovereign Indian Nations. Other opponents raised issues about U.S.-born babies of parents with dual citizenship.

Answer:
The states can not grant or deny citizenship. This is a function of the Federal government and based on the Federal Constitution.

I used to live in Montana, and really, this does not surprise me in the least.

Well, presumably, Native Americans are American citizens, so this bill will not effect their childrens' status. It will only effect the status of illegal immigrants living on Native American reservations. But yes, it is patently unconstitutional and will never hold up in court if the Montana legislature is stupid enough to pass it. Hopefully, someone on the Montana State Senate went to law school and can explain it to the rest of them.

Oy. Let me blow off steam by saying how much I dislike republicans, self righteous nut-jobs, they are. As a Montana citizen, I am blatantly against this pure bigotry. However, I would not put anything past this moronic state and those who reside in it. Moron being synonymous with Reich Wing. Yay, rant quota filled for the day! I am one with my Chi.

Any state representative can introduce a bill. This bill isn't even out of committee yet and is facing broad opposition. Given that's it's a complete non-event I have no opinion about it whatsoever.

The US constitution clearly states that anyone born in the US is a citizen. Whether that's a good idea or not is a separate issue. One cannot support this bill and the Constitution at the same time. Anyone who supports the spirit of it should first work to get an amendment. But how would that read? To be a US citizen one must be born in the US of parents who are nice, wealthy, and churchgoing? Or perhaps granted citizenship by popularity contest? :-)

whose land really is America anyway?

This is a brilliant idea. The idea that native Americans should be allowed American citizenship is absurd.
